It's got a few other tricks up its sleeve, though, namely support for push email, a 3.5mm headphone jack (hopefully accompanied by a decent music player), and a 2 megapixel cam on back to capture those amazing moments with enough clarity (in theory, anyway) to make for a decent MMS. We're still waiting for details on pricing and availability, but we know that it'll be available on Orange at some point -- appropriate, we must say, considering the orange accents.
Sure enough, the C6's updated skin with legit home screen widgets has been shoehorned onto both the 5800 and its 5530 sibling -- and although the update process seems like a bit of a nightmare fraught with bricking dangers, a successful update means you might be able to go another year without shelling out for a new set. Cheers to that, we say.

XDA member*m0bmentality and friends have been hard at work on creating the new TroutMobs Orange Street theme for HTC Sense (Manila 2.5), which is a refreshing and bright take on the sometimes-boring default look for your Windows Mobile device.

The team behind the theme has successfully skinned almost all of what’s visible on-screen, claiming to have edited over 1300 components. Also included, are original wallpapers (with weather-specific wallpapers promised) and an exclusive action screen, which complements the theme’s feel.

You can give the theme a try yourself by heading to the project thread and downloading the correct .cabs. . . READ ON »
After getting a "small number" of reports that the just-released update for O2-branded units was causing problems, the carrier has put the software on ice for the moment; there appear to be several failure modes ranging from freezing to having Sense get stuck in a crash loop, but the net result is that there's definitely some wonkiness with the binary O2's put out so far. Though we imagine you can probably find an update.zip floating around, we're not sure sure attempting an install is a hot idea -- we might wait for this situation to get sorted first. In the meantime, here's O2's full statement in its official forums:
"Hi all
As some of you will have noticed the Android 2.2 Froyo update for HTC Desire on O2 went live this morning. While we're pleased that so many of you have been able to download it successfully and are enjoying the benefits of 2.2, we have seen that a small number of people are having problems installing the update.

While we check out these issues we're putting the 2.2 update on hold. We'll update you as soon as possible and would like to thank our HTC Desire customers for their patience.

Thanks
JP"
A team of talent from MIT has put its head down in order to concoct a new Android application that can come darn close to solving complex computational problems in just a fraction of the time that it'd take a bona fide supercomputer. The goal here is to let researchers and scientists convert to Google's mobile OS, but if you aren't falling for that one, it's also designed to "let engineers perform complicated calculations in the field, and to better control systems for vehicles or robotic systems." Of course, the models that are hosted on the phone do require a supercomputer to create, but once certain formulas are embedded, the app can then compute approximations in mere seconds rather than hours. Best of all, rbAPPmit is available for download as well speak in the source link below, but we'd probably wait for the (presumably thick) user guide to surface before diving in headfirst.

Hands On with Viewsonic Viewtab 7 & Viewtab 100

Image: http://www.androidcentral.com/sites/androidcentral.com/files/articleimage/579/2010/09/viewsonic-viewpad/thumb_550_viewsonic-viewpad-01.jpg ...

Viewsonic is jumping into the Android tablet game with the Viewpad 7 and the Viewpad 100. Both are fairly straightforward Android tablets with little to speak of in terms of customization.

The Viewpad 7 offers a much better overall Android experience -- it's running Froyo with a properly sized keyboard with what would seem like a pokey 600MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 512 megs of RAM. As always with Android, though, the real test is the implementation and in this case we found the Viewpad 7 to hold its own in terms of speed and responsiveness. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to cry about either. Unfortunately, the display here is a paltry 800x480 pixels, so perhaps it's no wonder that it's responding to taps as we'd like.

The Viewpad 100 is both more exciting and less. More exciting because it's a 10-inch tablet with 1024x600 resolution that's able to boot into a full version of Windows 7 if you'd like. Less so because it's running on Android 1.6 because later versions of Android aren't yet playing nice with the Viewpad 100's Atom processor. In general, this version didn't feel fully baked - Viewsonic has yet to build the interface for dual-booting the device, but on the bright side the sucker did boot faster than most Android smartphones we've laid eyes on.

Both Viewpads should hit Europe in October, no word yet when they're coming stateside. Images and video after the break!

Windows Phone 7 ad surfaces

Well, it looks like Microsoft has started spending all that money (http://www.wmexperts.com/microsoft-may-spend-half-billion-get-wp7-rolling) to...

Well, it looks like Microsoft has started spending all that money to market Windows Phone 7. The above ad ran before a private screening of the upcoming re-make of Lawrence of Arabia.

It's a shame the screening wasn't for a re-make of 2001: A Space Odyssey. You could have had the black monolith replaced with a Windows Phone 7 and have HAL the computer announce the start of the revolution (or would that be too 'droid like?).

So, what do you think? The ad is a teaser and void any substantive information on the new phones. It does match the desert theme of Lawrence of Arabia but for those not as familiar with the new Windows Phones, is it enough to spark an interest? It will be interesting to see what Microsoft does as a follows up ad.

Sony Ericsson Yendo renamed Yizo?

Image: http://www.blogcdn.com/mobile.engadget.com/media/2010/09/se-yizo-fcc.jpg ...

We're not sure if this is a regional variation or a last-minute global decision, but a device known as the "Yizo" from Sony Ericsson has recently garnered the FCC's blessing -- and it looks suspiciously like the Yendo that was announced back in June. Of course, it's not unusual for Sony Ericsson to create both Walkman- and non-Walkman-branded versions of essentially the same device, but in this case, they both bear the trademark Walkman logo in their lower right corner and seem to be identical in every notable way, making this something of a non-Android remix of the X10 mini with a music slant. Interestingly, SE's got product pages up for both devices, and they're definitely showing the same phone, at least from the front -- though the Yizo's page seems to be a little screwed up, suggesting they might still be in the process of making the transition over from the Yendo name. More on this one as it develops.Sony Ericsson Yendo renamed Yizo? originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 06 Sep 2010 15:14:00 EST.
Even more Sept. 9 confirmation for the Verizon Fascinate

Image: http://images.androidcentral.com/sites/androidcentral.com/files/articleimage/684/2010/09/thumb_550_fascinate-sept-9.jpg ...

Accept no substitutes, folks: We brought you the first news that the Verizon Fascinate is coming Sept. 9. Hell, we followed it up with two more pieces of confirmation just a day later. We've brought you live pictures and benchmarks specs. We've brought you the listing in Verizon's inventory system. And we're the ones who brought you the wallpapers and ringtones in the form of a system dump. (And that's not even counting our official hands-on at the launch event in New York City.)

What's that, you say? You want more? How about even more confirmation of the Sept. 9 launch date, in the form of the screen shot above. It doesn't get more plain than that, now does it? Add to that a story at Phonedog that says the Sept. 9 date can be seen on that recent Fascinate commercial (for the life of us, we can't actually see it, though), and we think things are pretty well set. Thanks, Dallin!
PuffTheMagic has let the world know that version 0.3.2 of wIRC is out and if you haven't checked out this IRC client for chatting like crazy, it's time you did. A couple versions ago they switch the app to "hybrid," which means it uses both regular SDK code and native PDK code for a faster experience. This version brings Beta support for SSL, a must for people connecting to secure chat rooms (and on the short list of must-have apps for any smartphone OS for Engadget's Joshua Topolsky - we're not saying, we're just saying).

You may also have missed the improved color support, event messages, and more that have come with recent updates to wIRC.
